Zenith Celebrates The 50th Anniversary Of Trinidad Cigars With Some Very Special El Primeros

Zenith has always had a passion for fine cigars. Although a completely different product from watches, the craftsmanship, knowledge and passion needed to create a top quality product isn’t. It is, therefore, no wonder that Zenith joined Habanos in celebrating the 50th anniversary of their Trinidad cigars with four very special Pilot Type 20 Chronographs to mark the occasion.

Even in the exclusive world of fine Cuban cigars, do the ones from Trinidad occupy a realm of their own. Known for their rich, aromatic and slightly nutty flavour they are made with great care at Cohiba’s famed El Laguito factory. A special 50th-anniversary cigar was presented at Cuba’s 21st Habanos Festival, one of the most prestigious events in the world of fine cigars, alongside the four Zeniths.

To create these unique watches, Zenith opted for their Pilot Type 20 Chronograph as a base. This watch is powered by the legendary El Primero, a movement which this year is also celebrating its 50th anniversary! The beauty of these four watches is that Zenith went all in on creating something really special. The dial features a stunning tobacco leaf pattern on which we find the 50th-anniversary logo of Trinidad Cigars, along with the bold Arabic numerals that give the Type 20 Chronograph so much of its character.

Another key ingredient of this watch it its case, with the charismatic crown and chronograph pushers. It measures 45mm in diameter and Zenith will craft three limited editions of 50 pieces each in yellow, rose and white gold. Additionally, they also made a platinum piece-unique which, together with an exclusive Trinidad humidor, was auctioned at the Habanos Festival.

All watches are fitted with a unique strap, crafted from fine, brown calfskin. Embossed in it is the Trinidad logo, which gives the strap a very unique texture. This pattern can also be found on the rubber lining at the inside of the strap.  This detail is one example in which Zenith shows that beauty and functionality can go hand in hand, as this will make it perfectly suitable to wear in Cuba’s climate.
