While Patek Philippe is a manufacture rooted in history and tradition, it didn’t become one of the most renowned brands in the world by lack of innovation. Instead, the brand pursuits innovation on its own terms, focusing on advancing traditional watchmaking with better and more stable performance. The new Ref.5750 Advanced Research Minute Repeater is a watch that has exactly those qualities. It was developed by Patek Philippe’s Advanced Research department, which was established in 2005 with the aim of finding and applying new materials, concepts, and technologies to further perfect Patek Philippe’s offerings.

While a coveted complication, many minute repeaters have the disadvantage of not sounding as loud as you would want them to. With the Ref.5750 Advanced Research Minute Repeater, that problem is solved thanks to a sound amplification system that uses an ingenious oscillating wafer of sapphire crystal. Combined with a titanium ring in which four openings were machined, this patented module makes the sound heard at a six times larger distance while maintaining the rich and clear sound for what Patek Philipe minute repeaters are so renowned.

What is all the more exceptional is that Patek Philippe was able to keep the diameter of the watch at 40mm. This gives it a distinct wrist presence with an elegant touch. These qualities are further amplified by the height, which measures a rather modest 11.10 mm. The design is also a treat. Patek Philippe opted for a dial that resemblance the spokes of a vintage car. It is crafted from white gold, with the base features a refined hand-engraved guilloche pattern finished with a black nickel plating for increased contrast. We see the same pattern on the back of the watch, where the platinum micro-rotor features a similar design, yet here made by laser. It gives a touch of refinement to a watch that represents the future of watchmaking by a traditional approach. The Ref.5750 Advanced Research Minute Repeater will be made in a very limited run of just 15 pieces.
