Zenith Defy 21 Urban Jungle; A Ceramic Survival Watch For City Life And Outdoor Adventures

Can a watch be everything at the same time? Zenith is making a plausible case that it can, with the new Defy 21 Urban Jungle. For the brand, this model proves to be a versatile canvas that can be lavishly decorated with gemstones, like the previously released Pink Edition, or be down to earth like the Land Rover Limited Edition. Two things that even the more extreme watches in this collection share are their superb performance and strong Zenith-DNA.

While the Defy 21 Urban Jungle’s name may indicate otherwise, did Zenith not opt to give the watch a case made of concrete. Instead, they choose a ceramic in a deep forest green color. This suits the watch very well, especially combined with the rubber strap with Cordura effect in the same color. This also indicates that we are dealing here with a dedicated multi-talented athlete who can conquer the urban jungle and has little problems with the great outdoors. The ceramic case is not only light and scratch-resistant but also waterproof until 100 meters. This is quite a significant depth for a chronograph fitted with a sapphire caseback. It also means that there are very few activities on which the Defy 21 Urban Jungle cannot accompany you.

This Zenith also has a fascinating heart, as it is fitted with El Primero caliber 9004. This movement comes with two balance wheels, one for the chronograph and one for the time-keeping function. While the latter runs at the 5Hz that made the El Primero a legend when it was first introduced, does the first increase this rate by tenfold. This means that the chronograph is capable of measuring time with a precision of 1/100th of a second. By creating a skeletonized dial and giving the top bridges of the movement a PVD-coating in the same color as the case, Zenith creates unity in design while at the same time highlighting the watch’s mechanical capabilities. With that, it can equally well be an expression of your personal style in the urban jungle as well as a dependable tool in any other wilderness.
