Hublot has the ability, like no other, to capture the soul of a place in a timepiece. It has done so for several hot spots in the world already, from the Mediterranian beauty of Capri and Mykonos to the vibrance of Las Vegas and London. Now it is the turn for the “City by the Bay,” San Fransisco, to be immortalized in a timepiece. For this, Hublot selected their Big Bang Chronograph and went, as usual, the extra mile.

Description

As Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe puts his fascination for the city into words: “San Francisco is a city of such natural and cultural riches, golden by name, it is also golden by nature. We are delighted to dedicate this timepiece to the place and people that move the world forward with endless innovation and creativity.”

When you say San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is usually the first landmark that pops up into people’s minds. Initially designed by Joseph Strauss in 1917, the bridge connects the city of San Francisco with Marin County. When completed in 1937, it was both the tallest and longest suspension bridge in the world, with a height of 746 feet and a length of 4,200 feet. One of its main features is not only its distinct architecture but also its color.  Known as “International Orange,” this hue was chosen to increase its visibility to passing ships. As it is located so close to the Pacific Ocean, the paint has a unique formula that protects it better against the salt from the ocean.

Hublot also chose this color for its limited edition of the Big Bang Chronograph. As one of the pioneers in ceramic, it was able to craft this material in vibrant orange, which gives the timepiece a unique look that continues on the dial. Here one of the towers of the bridge decorates the subdial for the running seconds. Inside the 45mm large case, we find UNICO caliber HUB1242, Hublot’s manufacture flyback chronograph movement with column-wheel and vertical clutch. The Big Bang Unico San Francisco is available at Hublot’s charismatic boutique located on Geary Street, in the city’s vibrant heart. It is limited to just 20 pieces and comes with a black rubber strap, as well as one made from orange velcro.
