The Short Answer

In business for only seven years, Swiss watchmaker HM&F has set out to distinguish itself from its centuries-old competitors with radical designs. Calling his watches “Horological Machines,” founder Maximilian Büsser regards his creation as living sculptures, whose time-telling capabilities are second to their aesthetic concepts.

The latest living sculpture is its HM3 Frog Watch, named after the Amazon’s vivid yellow and black patterned Poison Frog Dart (Dendrobates leucomelas). Like the frog, the watch has two wide-angled “eyes”; two solid aluminum dials take the shape of spheres, one for hours and one for minutes. Protective domes of sapphire crystals top off the unconventional dials, affording a multi-angle view much like the vision system of the frog which inspired the design.

The black case is coated in a sleek layer of PVD and accentuated by 18K gold screws.
Located above the time-telling “eyes” an oversized date wheel and pendulum acts as the beating heart to the amphibious watch, which can dive safely to 30 m.

Unfortunately for the amphibian-loving segment of the US market, the MB&F HM3 watch is only available in Singapore, exclusively at the Hour Glass boutique.
