Yesterday, June 13, Christie’s held the Important Watches sale in New York to record breaking numbers. The sale culminated at $8,495,988.
The highlight of the auction was the Patek Philippe two-crown world-time Ref. 2523/1, which set a world record at $1,022,500. This record-setting amount is the highest ever paid for any timepiece sold at any Christie’s sale in America.
Nine of the top ten sales at the auction were Patek Philippe pieces, with one Piaget taking fourth place.
“The incredible strength of the watch collecting market was apparent in our salerooms today, as more than 750 bidders from as far away as Vietnam and as near as New York City competed head-to-head for nearly every timepiece offered, from vintage to modern examples,” Douglas Escribano, Head of Sales, Watches, said.
He continued, “Today’s sale was a fitting finale to a truly spectacular spring watch auction season in which Christie’s has consistently led the market on a global level. With our fall sales already on the horizon, we are firmly on track to achieve yet another record-breaking year for watch sales.”
