This May, Christie’s is set to honor the legacy of Michael Schumacher, one of the most accomplished Formula 1 drivers in the history of the sport, by offering selected timepieces from his private collection at the Rare Watches Live Auction. This event, taking place at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva on May 13, 2024, coincides with the 30th anniversary of Schumacher’s first Formula 1 Drivers Championship win in 1994, adding a layer of historical significance to the auction.

Rémi Guillemin, Christie’s Head of Watches for Europe and the US, expressed gratitude to the Schumacher Family for entrusting Christie’s with these horological masterpieces, noting the opportunity for passionate collectors worldwide to own a piece of the legend’s legacy. This auction promises to be an exceptional moment for both watch enthusiasts and Formula 1 fans, offering a unique intersection of luxury timekeeping and motorsport history.

Among the highlights of the collection is an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak chronograph, a personal gift from Jean Todt, Schumacher’s mentor at Ferrari. This white gold chronograph celebrates Schumacher’s six World Championship victories with a bespoke dial featuring Ferrari’s iconic prancing horse, a numeral ‘1’ surrounded by six stars, and Schumacher’s red racing helmet. This piece stands as a pinnacle of personal F1 memorabilia with deep emotional and historical resonance.

Another notable piece is the F.P. Journe Vagabondage 1 Model, a watch with a bespoke red dial adorned with symbols representing Schumacher’s seven F1 World Championships by 2004, including his racing helmet and the Ferrari emblem. The Vagabondage series, known for its wandering hours display, showcases François-Paul Journe’s innovative spirit and complements Schumacher’s pioneering approach to racing.
