Breitling’s New Top Time Turns the Aston Martin DB5 Into a Chronograph
Some collaborations feel inevitable, especially when two legendary names share a history rooted in performance, craftsmanship, and timeless design. Breitling and Aston Martin have reunited to celebrate one of the most recognizable automobiles ever built with the introduction of the Breitling Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Aston Martin DB5. Inspired by the legendary grand tourer that first appeared in 1963, the new collection transforms the spirit of the Aston Martin DB5 into an elegant Swiss chronograph offered in three exclusive limited editions.

The release also brings together two cultural icons that famously appeared side by side during the golden era of James Bond. In Thunderball (1965), Sean Connery wore a Breitling Top Time while driving the Aston Martin DB5, creating one of cinema’s most memorable pairings of luxury engineering and sophisticated style. More than sixty years later, Breitling revisits that connection with a watch that embraces both nostalgia and modern watchmaking excellence.
Originally introduced for a younger generation that embraced speed, adventure, and unconventional design, the Top Time collection quickly became one of Breitling’s most distinctive chronographs. Rather than recreating the past, this latest edition captures the emotional experience of sitting behind the wheel of the Aston Martin DB5. Every design detail has been carefully considered to reflect the character of the iconic British sports car while maintaining the unmistakable identity of the Top Time.
The watch immediately stands out with its vintage inspired cushion shaped case, grooved corners, and signature mushroom chronograph pushers that pay tribute to Breitling’s designs from the 1960s. The dashboard inspired “squircle” subdials reinforce the automotive connection, while the wooden inner ring references the handcrafted wooden steering wheel found inside the Aston Martin DB5. Complementing the dial is a hand colored brown leather strap designed to evoke the rich upholstery that defined luxury British grand touring cars of the era.

Breitling CEO Georges Kern describes the Aston Martin DB5 as one of those rare creations whose design remains just as relevant today as it was in the 1960s. Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman echoed that sentiment, explaining that the collaboration allowed both companies to exchange ideas while honoring their shared appreciation for craftsmanship, innovation, and timeless aesthetics. Their combined vision is reflected throughout every element of the new chronograph.
Collectors can choose from three highly exclusive editions, each offering a different interpretation of the iconic partnership. The stainless steel model with a silver dial is limited to 1,022 pieces and remains closest in character to the original Top Time reference from the 1960s. A second edition pairs stainless steel with a platinum bezel and a black lacquered dial, limited to just 315 examples, creating a striking combination of elegance and visual depth. At the top of the collection sits an 18 karat red gold edition limited to only 250 individually numbered watches. It features a natural black onyx dial, marking the first time Breitling has incorporated onyx into one of its watches, giving every piece a unique appearance and luxurious finish.

While the design draws heavily from automotive heritage, the mechanical performance is entirely contemporary. Powering every version is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, a COSC certified automatic chronograph movement that has earned a reputation for precision and reliability. Built around a column wheel and vertical clutch architecture, the movement delivers exceptionally smooth chronograph operation while providing an impressive 70 hour power reserve. Through the sapphire crystal caseback, owners can admire the beautifully finished movement complete with a dedicated Aston Martin engraved rotor that differs according to each model’s materials.
The 41 millimeter case strikes a versatile balance for everyday wear while offering 100 meters of water resistance, ensuring the watch combines luxury with practical durability. Super LumiNova coated hands improve legibility in low light, and the glare proof sapphire crystal enhances visibility from every angle. Whether worn during daily activities or reserved for special occasions, the watch delivers the performance expected from a modern Swiss chronograph.

Beyond its technical credentials, the Breitling Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Aston Martin DB5 succeeds because it tells a story. It celebrates a remarkable period when automotive innovation, Swiss watchmaking, and cinematic history intersected to create enduring symbols of style. Instead of relying solely on nostalgia, Breitling has crafted a timepiece that feels contemporary while respecting the heritage that inspired it.
For luxury watch collectors, Aston Martin enthusiasts, and admirers of classic British design, this limited edition collection offers far more than a commemorative release. It represents two brands united by a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, mechanical excellence, and designs that continue to inspire generations. With production strictly limited across all three versions, the Breitling Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 Tribute to Aston Martin DB5 is destined to become one of the standout luxury watch launches of 2026.
