Zenith’s collaboration with premium cigar manufacturer Cohiba recently got a new chapter with two Pilot Type 20 special editions. It is quite extraordinary to sense the synergy between the watches and the cigars as their alignment doesn’t seem like a stretch for either brand. They naturally complement each other.

With their bold Arabic numerals, vintage styled case and oversized onion crowns seem both Zeniths most comfortable on the wrist of cigar smoking adventurers. At the same time, even without the Cohiba logo on the dial, both Zeniths already possess quite a few references to the colors and packaging used by one of the most famous producers of Habanos cigars. These two special editions are dedicated to the ‘Maduro 5’; whose name refers to the color of the wrapper of this cigar. It is harvested off the top of shade-grown tobacco plants and aged for five years before being used creating the exceptional, full-bodied, Maduro 5 cigars.

Zenith will produce 150 pieces of the Pilot Type 20 Chronograph Cohiba Maduro 5 Edition. This 45mm large watch is crafted from bronze with a titanium case back, in which ‘El Laguito’, Cohiba‘s historic factory is engraved. While right now its color resembles that of dried tobacco leaves, the bronze will over time develop a unique patina. The watch is equipped, of course, with an El Primero movement, in this case calibre 4069, which has a power reserve of 50-hours. While being a pilot’s watch is boasts an exceptional water resistance of 100 meters. The Pilot Type 20 Chronograph Cohiba Maduro 5 Edition is fitted with a deep brown oily kudu leather strap with a comfortable rubber lining and a titanium pin buckle.

The Pilot Type 20 Extra Special Cohiba Maduro 5 Edition does things slightly differently. Although it shares the diameter with the chronograph version, it is crafted from rose gold. Fitted with an alligator strap, it makes the watch look a bit more upscale than its sportive sibling. The rose gold case offers a nice contrast with the matte dial, where the bold Arabic numerals seem to be even more eye-catching due to the lack of subdials. Just like the cigars the watch is named after, it results in a very rich and charismatic proposition. The Pilot Type 20 Extra Special Cohiba Maduro 5 Edition in rose gold is powered by an automatic calibre from the Elite family and limited to 50 pieces. While both watches are available separately, a select few are also available as a pair with matching numbers for true connoisseurs!
