Haute Time’s Hottest Watches Of 2021 Part I

2021 wasn't how many of us would have expected it to be. As the Covid-19 pandemic continued, it offered many challenges to all of us. Where some businesses lingered because of it, others thrived. Despite very few events, many of the watch brands did well, not in the least because of the fantastic new models they launched. These are among Haute Time's favorites:

Throwback Thursday: Patek Philippe Reference 3974

Patek Philippe's history is a constant stream of highlights, particularly when looking at their more complicated pieces. The brand invented the annual calendar, but not before making its mark on one of the most coveted complications available, the perpetual calendar. The reference 3974 holds a special place in this, as it was the very first perpetual calendar with a minute repeater, powered by an automatic movement.

Haute Complication: Patek Philippe Ref.5905 Annual Calendar Chronograph

Complications are great, but a combination of them is even better. The Ref.5905 Annual Calendar Chronograph delivers just that, in a way only Patek Philippe can do. With its first annual calendar introduced in 1996, the brand is actually the inventor of this complication. As it only needs manual adjusting every February of each year, it is less complex and expensive than a perpetual calendar, but far more convenient than a regular one. Ref.5905 also taps into the long-standing tradition at Patek Philippe to merge a calendar complication with a chronograph. No wonder that it quickly amassed its own share of admirers.

Watch of the Week: Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738/51G

Based upon the so-called "Golden Ratio" made the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse quite stir at the watch fair in Basel, Switzerland, when it was introduced there in 1968. Ancient Greek mathematicians already concluded that applying the ratio of 1 / 1.6181 resulted in great beauty, whether it was in architecture or art. The Golden Ellipse proved that this was also true in watches. Ever since its introduction, it has been a staple in the collection of Patek Philippe with a loyal following. Today the watch still looks as elegant and stylish as it did when it was first launched, and one can only conclude that it has a timeless sense of beauty. That doesn't mean that Patek Philippe leaves it as it is, as the watch is also a perfect canvas to create something extraordinary, like the reference 5738/51G.

Patek Philippe Ref. 6301P Grande Sonnerie; The Chime Is Right

Perfection often looks simple, but it rarely is. This is also the case with the new Patek Philippe Ref. 6301P Grande Sonnerie. The watch is generously sized, measuring 44.8 mm in diameter, yet rather restraint in its design. Close observation will learn that it is rich in detail, as the platinum case has a subtle concave bezel and stunning countersunk flanks. The black dial is also a thing of beauty, as it is made from Grand Feu enamel, fitted with gold Breguet numerals. Interesting is that the traditional gold leaf-shaped hands feature a luminescent coating. It is a subtle detail, but it gives this classic watch a slight contemporary edge while making it more practical as well.

Patek Philippe Makes Steel The New Deal For Calatrava

Most people will immediately think of the exquisite dress watches made by Patek Philippe in precious metals when you mention the Calatrava. Already decades ago has this collection become a benchmark for the industry. While Patek Philippe made quite a name for itself with first the stainless steel Nautilus, and later on the Aquanaut, was this material only used sporadically to case Calatrava's. Recently there seems to have been a change in direction, as last year we where already been treated to the exquisite Calatrava Weekly Calendar Ref.5212A, sporting a stainless steel case, and now Patek Philippe is treating us on the Ref.6007A-001 Limited Edition, also in this material.

Four Watches For Father’s Day

It might be a cliche, but a watch is one of the best gifts to give dad for father's day. It combines practical and sentimental values and will provide him with joy whenever he is wearing it. Which watch to get dad depends very much on what style your dad prefers and what he enjoys doing. The following four might give you some inspiration on what to get for that important man in your life.

Throwback Thursday: The Patek Philippe Ref.1463

The Ref.1463 is a charming chronograph that Patek Philippe first introduced in 1940, and of which it made the last models in the late 1960s. With a diameter of 35mm is it small by today's standards, but considered quite sportive when conceived. This is also confirmed by the fact that Patek Philippe gave this reference a water-resistant case. It is also the only vintage chronograph model by the brand, featuring round pushers for the chronograph function.

Will The COVID-19 Pandemic Change The (Watch) World Forever?

The current COVID-19 pandemic has a profound impact on our daily lives. In many parts of the world, staying inside is the credo, with people living their lives in social quarantine. This also has quite an impact on many industries, including that of watches. Retailers
