The Winners Of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève 2021

Haute Highlights Of The 2021 LVMH Watch Week
Although digital, was this year's edition of the LVMH Watch Week quite the event. Hublot, Zenith, and Bulgari all showed that not even a pandemic could slow down their drive to innovate, as they presented their latest watches. While they all impressed, these are our haute highlights;
Bulgari Pushes The Ultra-Thin Envelope Again With Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic
Bulgari has gathered quite an impressive collection of world-records when it comes to ultra-thin watches, and last week in Geneva they added another one. The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic is with a thickness of 7.4mm by far the thinnest watch of its kind ever made. The movement itself measures only 3.5mm, yet it still sports a superb finish on all levels and is even fitted with a column-wheel and vertical clutch. Because of the advanced skeletonization of the movement, all these parts can be admired in full.
Watch of the Week: Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater Sandblasted Rose Gold
Bulgari has spoiled us over the last few years with ultra-thin delicacies that they presented within the Octo Finissimo collection. One of the highlights in this line-up is, without a doubt, the minute repeater. It has a natural attraction to watch connoisseurs because of its complex mechanism, but also due to the sound it makes. Many brands have invested significant resources in improving the vibrance and tone when the hammers hit the gongs, but Bulgari also focussed on the movement itself. Through clever engineering, they succeeded in making it only 3.12mm thick, which is as astonishing as it is record-breaking.
Bulgari Expands Octo Finissimo Collection And Launches New Tourbillon
Bulgari uses its presence at the LVMH Watch Week, which is held at the Bulgari resort in Dubai, to expand the highly successful Octo Finissimo collection further. Some interesting new varieties will now be available, making this watch more appealing than ever. While titanium is what people often think of with this ultra-slim watch, is it also stunning in traditional stainless steel. Bulgari already introduced this option in 2018, but now makes it available with an attractive black dial. This gives the watch a more traditional sports-watch look, which suits the Octo Finissimo perfectly. The stainless steel features a nice alternation between polished and satin-finished surfaces, which cleverly highlight the unique design of this watch.
2020: What To Expect From A New Decade Of Watches?
Moving into another year is always something, but entering an entirely new decade seems to come with even higher expectations. The last decade was a turbulent one, with rapid innovations of which one, the smartwatch, was accompanied by a potential cloud of doom for the traditional watch industry. While primarily the Apple watch sold very well, the watch industry wasn't plunged into another quartz crisis. Many now consider that smartwatches got a new and young generation of customers used to wearing something around their wrist. As a result, they also are curious about what else there is to wear, and then the magic of tiny little gears, levers, and other parts that work together in an astonishing precision seems to be hard to resist. In the new decade, the smartwatches with undoubtfully hold their ground, as their technological features will ever increase. Still, they will no longer be an imminent threat to the mechanical watch industry.
Haute Time’s Hottest Chronographs Of 2019
It is still interesting to see that the development of certain mechanical complications doesn't stop. A great example of this is the chronograph, where brands continue to find new ways to take it to the next level. 2019 was a year in which chronographs broke records and celebrated anniversaries, as it has been 50 years since the very first automatic chronographs hit the market. So no wonder that 2019 was a great year for chronographs.
Four Of The Best Bracelets On Watches
When it comes to watches, we tend to focus on the movement and its complications. While this is indeed often the reason why we buy a particular watch, a good bracelet, when it is of course fitted with one, can also have a substantial impact on how we enjoy it in day to day life. It should not only firmly yet comfortably secure the watch on our wrist, but it should also match its style. Designing and creating such a bracelet is not an easy task, yet these four brands nailed it.
Exploring Cape Town With The Bulgari Octo Finissimo
Of all the cities in the world, Cape Town is most certainly one of the more unique. Located on South Africa's southwest coast, the city is built on a peninsula, providing much of its charm. In Cape Town, you always feel the presence of the imposing Table Mountain, which forms a beautiful backdrop and serves as a further testimony of South Africa's rich nature. It gives the vibrant city a one-of-a-kind appeal, similar to that of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo which was on the wrist to explore it.
Black On Black: Four Watches That Appeal In Monochromatic Colors
Black on black seems to be one of the most boring color combinations possible for watches. It seems to be hard for designs to shine, and show their full potential when it is more difficult to see all the different details. It is however exactly that understated look that draws quite a bit of people to these watches, and over the years they have created their niche in the world of watches. These four creations are proudly a member of that club!
Signing Off On 2018 With The Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton
Few watches have made such a mark on the industry in recent years as the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo. That it is a design statement is not so surprising, it is after all a Bvlgari, but it is also the watch that cemented the brand's reputation as bonafide manufacture among the general watch-buying public. The fact that Bvlgari did this with a range of ultra-slim movements is very surprising, yet at the same time not so surprising at all. When most brands want to truly establish themselves as a manufacture, they start making complicated watches, not ultra-slim movements that only tell time. However, one of the benefits that ultra-slim movements provide is far more freedom regarding the design of the watch. That is of course when you are able to design and make a reliable, ultra-slim movement in the first place.
Thin Is In! Bvlgari And The Battle For Having The Thinnest Mechanical Watches
Ultra-thin watches: not too long ago this was the exclusive territory of dress watches. Brands like Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe and Piaget, ruled in this domain. Yet as many things in the watch industry change, so also this. In more recent times having the world's thinnest mechanical watch (with or without a complication) seems to have turned into a showdown between Piaget and Bulgari, who put a distinctly different spin on things!
And Some More Great New Watches From Baselworld
For a few days a year Basel, normally a modest provincial capital on the Swiss borders with Germany and France, is the capital of the world, the watch world that is. This year is particularly strong in terms of new offerings. The vast majority of the brands exhibiting at Baselworld introduced watches that are very pure in their DNA, while at the same time in tune with what the market currently desires, like these four watches:
