Omega Goes For Gold With New Speedmasters

Watches don’t get any more professional than the Omega Speedmaster, the first watch worn on the moon. Gold might not be an obvious choice to craft such a watch from, but the result is surprisingly elegant when you do. This is most certainly the case with the two new models that Omega recently introduced. With a diameter of 38mm are they slightly smaller than their ‘professional’ sibling, but still have plenty of wrist presence. They also combine elegance with practical use, as is evident from, for example, the bezel. It is split into two parts, one made from aluminum with a tachymeter scale on it, and the other set with 90 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Omega SpeedmasterThe first new model features a case in classic yellow gold. Omega combined it with an opaline dial. By giving the subdials an oval outline that cuts into the dial, they add not only elegance but also depth. Omega chooses to combine the yellow gold case with green details. This looks stunning, mainly because Omega gave it the right touch. They opted for a beautiful forest green hue, but applied it with restain. Only the hands connected to the chronograph function have the color, as does the bezel with tachymeter scale. A green strap brings it all together, where the light-colored stitching gives a sportive touch.

Omega SpeedmasterThe second new Omega Speedmaster has its case made from Omega’s proprietary Sedna gold. Its vibrant color goes perfect with the taupe-colored strap, as well as the cappuccino tachymeter bezel. As the dial has a distinct cream color, this watch is perhaps a bit more elegant than its yellow gold counterpart, but just as desirable. Both watches are powered by Omega’s caliber 3330. Even though it remains hidden behind the closed, gold caseback does it feature automatic winding, a co-axial escapement, a column wheel operated chronograph function, and a 54-hour power reserve.  They not only come with a Chronometer-certification but also with Omega’s five-year warranty.
