Morgan's Jewelers has been the official Rolex Jeweler for the South Bay area of Los Angeles for more than 45 years and its owner, Marshall Varon, spoke to Haute Time about the best Rolex models, most of which he owns.

Morgan’s Jewelers has been the official Rolex Jeweler for the South Bay area of Los Angeles for more than 45 years and its owner, Marshall Varon, spoke to Haute Time about the best Rolex models, most of which he owns. The Rolex Watch Company is one of the most recommended and recognizable brands in luxury timepieces, and it cultivated success manufacturing reliable, certified chronometer mechanical movements built within water-resistant cases and suitable for any climate condition.

Rolex dates back to the 1900s, and even introduced the world’s first water resistant-watch, the Oyster. Since then, Rolex has continued to make both technological and aesthetic improvements to its watches.

The Daytona

Thanks to its tachymeter engraved bezel, the Daytona can measure time intervals and allows the calculation of average speeds. It was first introduced in 1961, and since 2000, it’s been equipped with a new chronograph movement entirely designed and manufactured by Rolex. The movement has a 72-hour power reserve and includes a Parachrom hairspring, making it resistant to shocks and magnetic fields. The Daytona is water resistant up to 100 meters and is available in a variety of metal and dial combinations, including steel and yellow gold.

Yacht-Master II

This watch was designed with the yachting enthusiast or professional sailor in mind. The Yacht-Master was the first timepiece to be built with a programmable countdown and mechanical memory, which gives it the ability to be synced with the start time of a race. It’s available in a variety of metals, including stainless steel and pink gold, and it has a new 44-millimeter case size.

GMT-Master II

The GMT-Master II is known as the “Pilot’s Watch” with its specified design that was developed for international flying. It has a second timezone capability, the GMT hand, and corresponding rotating bezel. This model offers a date calendar and automatic movement.

Datejust II

This is the first watch to display the date through an aperture on the dial, and the iconic magnifying Cyclops eye over the date was added a few years later. With it’s new 41-millimeter case size, it’s been popular amongst those favoring the model but desiring a larger timepiece. Although, the 36-millimeter original Datejust is still available with all the updated features.

Day-Date II

United States President Lyndon B. Johnson donned his yellow gold Day-Date regularly, according to legend, from which the term “President” watch stemmed from. The 41-millimeter Day-Date is the newest Day-Date model available, but the original 36-millimeter Day-Date is still available in yellow, white or pink gold, as well as platinum, with a variety of diamond options.

The Submariner and ROLEX Deepsea

The Submariner diving watch is the chic model worn in James Bond movies and is celebrating almost 60 years as the ultimate diver’s watch. True to its namesake, it’s designed to withstand extreme underwater exploration. The Submariner Date and non-date have automatic movements and water water-resistent to 300 meters. The Submariner Date measures 40mm and is available in various metals. The Rolex Deepsea model measures 44mm, and is water tested to an impressive 3,900 meters.
