Haute Time recently spotted the Panerai Radiomir 1940 Chrono Monopulsante 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso while visiting Officine Panerai’s boutique in Bal Harbour, Florida. We will bring you a full report on the boutique later this month, but first, let’s take a look at one of our favorite watches from 2013:

The Special Edition Radiomir 1940 Chrono Monopulsante 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso deserves its name. It combines the rich history of Officine Panerai, which collectors cherish so, with the innovative P.2004 Manufacture movement. It’s very special indeed.

The PAM502 features the Radiomir 1940 case, a tribute to a unique moment in Panerai’s history when the cushion-shaped Radiomir case was evolving into the Luminor 1950 case. Relaunched by Officine Panerai in 2012, the Radiomir 1940 case has strap attachments and proportions similar to the Luminor 1950, but no locking lever to protect the winding crown. Still, it presents the strength and functionality Panerai is renowned for.

Made in red gold, and measuring 45 mm in diameter, the case has a cylindrical winding crown with the Officine Panerai logo in relief and a single push-piece at eight o’clock which controls all the chronometer functions. The location of the push-piece means the watch keeps its symmetrical balance when worn on the wrist (as seen above). The PAM502 also features Panerai’s classic brown dial, with classic large hour markers and satiné soleil finish.

Housed inside the Panerai Radiomir 1940 Chrono Monopulsante 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso, the P.2004 Manufacture movement is one of the most elaborately decorated movements from Panerai. Technically, it’s not a new calibre, but rather a more elaborate version of the original, P.2004/10 version. This time, it comes with skeletonised bridges and barrels, and the result is a more aesthetically pleasing movement.

The Panerai Radiomir 1940 Chrono Monopulsante 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso comes with brown alligator strap with an adjustable buckle made of the same material as the case. The PAM502 is part of a limited edition of 300 pieces, priced at $51,700.
