Luxury watchmaker Greubel Forsey has unveiled a unique new timepiece. The Tourbillon 24 Secondes Contemporain, which will be produced in 5N red or white gold, features a natural titanium movement.
Housed in a round 43.5mm case, the multi-level domed dial of this timepiece boasts a regulator, a power reserve indicator at 4 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and the ‘floating’ Tourbillon 24 Secondes mechanism at 6 o’clock (which is supported by a transparent sapphire bridge). Twelve o’clock is the sole numeral on the dial (in red or white gold, depending on the version); the rest of the hours are indicated via indexes on a raised sapphire chapter ring, while the minutes are marked on a blackened track underneath. The highlight of the dial is the light grey of the natural titanium movement and integrated titanium bridges, which feature hand-finished straight-graining, frosting and highly polished bevels.
Meanwhile, the flat sapphire crystal caseback displays the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Contemporain’s three NAC-treated anthracite bridges with mirror-polished bevels (many of which feature internal angles), mirror-polished countersinks, straight-graining and snailed decoration on the mainspring barrel. The movement comprises 268 components – 88 for the ultra‐light 0.39-gram tourbillon cage alone – and is powered by two coaxial mainspring barrels in series, providing a power reserve of 72 hours.
Two hand-engraved gold plates at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock decorate the caseband, bearing the philosophy of Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey. A hand-stitched alligator strap with a folding clasp (in red or white gold) completes the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Contemporain.
