I was excited to check out The Geo.Graham Tourbillon Orrery during BaselWorld, as this is one of the biggest creations to be developed by Eric Loth while running GRAHAM. The story behind this watch goes back to 1713, when renowned watchmaker and scientist George Graham created the first Orrery. Now, 300 years later, Graham and his Orrery were the inspiration for this new timepiece, which puts the solar system on your wrist.
I was excited to check out The Geo.Graham Tourbillon Orrery during BaselWorld, as this is one of the biggest creations to be developed by Eric Loth while running GRAHAM.
At BaselWorld, the only way to see this watch was with Loth himself – the GRAHAM CEO (pictured above) demonstrated the watch himself, with no one allowed to see it without him. So, I was very excited to be able to see the watch, but what was most remarkable was that when I arrived for my 2:30 appointment, there were already 4-5 other people there waiting. Suffice it to say, there was a lot of buzz at BaselWorld about this piece. However, this watch is so cool, I didn’t mind waiting – I wanted to see the watch up close, in person, and see what the buzz was all about.
The Geo.Graham Tourbillon Orrery will be limited to only 10 pieces, and will retail for US$345,000. The watch motion was set by Christophe Claret Manufacture in Le Locle, Switzerland, and includes the Moon, Earth, Mars and the Sun based on a 300-year calendar. The Sun is represented by an 18K pink gold hand-engraved Tourbillon bridge with two phoenix heads in a tribute to the decoration used by George Graham. The year counter on the caseback enables the wearer to identify correction for the planets (Moon: 7 years, Earth: 1156 years, Mars: 25 years). GRAHAM’s Orrery will be functional for the next 300 years.
We are huge fans of the brand, and feel this watch has given the company great buzz with its huge success at BaselWorld. So many people were interested, and stopped at the booth to check out the watch. If you can get that many people waiting on one watch in the midst of BaselWorld, you know it is a huge success.
