Today we’re taking a close up look at the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date by Glashütte Original. Unveiled at Baselworld 2014 as part of Glashütte Original’s Art & Technik collection, this timepiece boasts a new chronograph movement designed and hand-crafted in-house by the brand.
The new Calibre 37-01 is the first movement Glashütte Original has conceived and built specifically as a chronograph movement. The automatic 4Hz column wheel Calibre 37-01 features a simple and compact design, with a diameter of just 31.6mm. The movement features a bi-directional skeletonized rotor with a 21K gold oscillation weight, and the 70-hour power reserve is managed by a single spring barrel. The sapphire crystal caseback gives a glimpse of the movement, with the rotor and chronograph bridges mounted on the Glashütte three-quarter plate, a stripe finish on the automatic bridge, and blued screws.
The Senator Chronograph Panorama Date boasts several functions, including a central stop seconds hand, 30 minute and 12 hour counters with flyback mechanism, a small seconds counter, a power reserve indicator, and Glashütte Original’s signature Panorama Date display. The chronograph start and stop functions are activated by the pusher at 2 o’clock, while the flyback mechanism is activated by the pusher at 4 o’clock.
There are two versions of this 42mm timepiece: one in platinum, and one in 18K red gold. The red gold version pictured here features Glashütte Original’s classic lacquered silver grained Senator dial, with a black railroad chapter ring, black Roman numerals, and blued steel hands.
The Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is completed by a matte black Louisiana alligator leather strap with an 18K red gold fold-over clasp.
