It is not uncommon to remake something decades after it was first launched....at least, in the car world. Aston Martin did it not too long ago with the DB4GT, and Jaguar just announced that it will make another 25 D-Types, which they stopped producing in 1956. In the watch world, this is a bit more uncommon, yet Vacheron Constantin did something similar with this chronograph in 1990, at the request of a client.

With so much attention going to the breathtaking IWC “Tribute to Pallweber,” some other watches of the Jubilee collection did not get the attention that they would normally warrant. Such was for sure the case of the most complicated, and technically imposing watch of IWC’s anniversary collection, the Portugieser Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition "150 Years".

It is a battle of titans, as Bulgari and Piaget compete with each other to create the world’s thinnest mechanical watches. In this battle, Piaget can bow down on a much longer history as it started its legacy in 1957 with the 2mm thick manual wind caliber 9P, followed in 1960 with the 2.3mm slender automatic caliber 12P. Over the course of the decades, it has mainly used these thin, and small, calibers to offer its designers almost unrestricted freedom, which has resulted in turn in some of the most breathtaking dress watches in the world.

It was one of the highlights of last year’s Baselworld: the Zenith Defy El Primero 21. While the El Primero itself has already set the standard of its chronograph to 5Hz/36.000 bpm in 1969, allowing you to measure with a 1/10th of a second accuracy, the El Primero 21 exceeds this tenfold. Running at a staggering 50Hz, the chronograph measures up to 1/100th of a second, and does so with a central seconds hand, which makes this accomplishment all the more tangible.

While the SIHH takes place in the Palexpo halls of Geneva, this is not the only place in the city where you can find the latest and greatest watches. In the downtown area, brands that are not officially part of the SIHH setup shop on boats and in the exclusives hotels near the lake. For them, Baselworld is often the main fair to introduce their new models, but that didn’t stop them to bring a few novelties to Geneva as well!

The Salon Internationale de Haute Horlogerie, or SIHH, featured this year again a stunning line-up of the most beautiful watches. More then recent years the brands seem to be in touch with their own DNA, which resulted in a very pure watches that truly represented their brand, rather than just a trend. In such a company it is hard to call favorites, yet there where still some watches that grabbed our attention just a bit more than others.

Normally, a modest change of dial color is little reason for excitement. This seems especially the case for a brand like Hublot, which is known to pull out all stops for its new models and limited editions. So what makes this green dial so special?
