Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph: Timing With A Twist
Because the chronograph is one of the most prevalent complications, the variety among them is nearly endless. Yet to create something different and appealing still proves to be quite the task, especially when it also has to be in line with the brand’s DNA. Jaquet Droz solved this by giving its Grande Seconde Chronograph, literally, a twist.

The watch is powered by Jaquet Droz caliber 26M5R, which can be admired through its caseback fitted with a sapphire crystal. It is equipped with an oscillating weight made from rose gold, which winds a single barrel, giving the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph a maximum power reserve of 40 hours. While the layout of the chronograph is quite classical, with even a column wheel guiding the functioning of the chronograph, does it also have distinctly modern elements such as a balance spring and pallet horns made from silicon. Here Jaquet Droz is benefitting from being part of the Swatch Group, which is one of the companies that has spearheaded the development of these new materials in watchmaking.
Jaquet Droz is offering the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph in three different varieties. The one with a double level silver dial has the most classic appearance, combining this traditional dial color with blued hands. A completely different look gets the watch when fitted with a grey dial. Captured in a stainless steel case, and equipped with stainless steel hands, does it give the Jaquet Droz a more sportive appearance, while its color also makes it look slightly smaller on the wrist than its siblings. Interestingly enough, does the blue dial version not have this effect. Matched with a matte alligator strap in the same color, and fitted with a stainless steel case, does it give a fresh and contemporary look to Jaquet Droz’s chronograph with a twist.
