TAG Heuer Debuts Matt Black Ceramic Carrera HEUER-01

Under the capable leadership of Jean-Claude Biver, TAG-Heuer is quickly reclaiming the position of being an innovative and creative manufacture, a quality which made them famous in the first place. An important watch to do so is the Carrera HEUER-01. The Carrera has been throughout its history an important model for TAG-Heuer, but the version that was introduced in 2015 not only revamped the watch but was also used to debuted the manufacture caliber HEUER-01. Since that moment the Carrera has become one of the best-selling watches within the TAG-Heuer collection, which is now also available in matt black ceramic.

Truth to be told, this material gives the watch a very technical, almost sinister, look. This is, of course, thanks to the micro-blasted matt finish that TAG-Heuer applied to the ceramic case and bracelet. While it is an imposing watch, with a diameter of 45mm, it is surprisingly light to wear thanks to the ceramic. When on the wrist, the ceramic warms up to body temperature very quickly increasing the wearing comfort even more. Although also available on a rubber strap, the ceramic strap does add something to it. Not only in the way the watch looks but more so in the wearing experience, you have as an owner. It really gives the feeling that you are wearing something high-tech.

Through the partially skeletoniced dial you can admire the front of the HEUER-01 caliber that TAG-Heuer makes in-house. It are the smaller details that turn this watch into an experience, like the skeletonized date wheel, and at the back the red details on the column wheel. Biver has been adamant about TAG-Heuer not only expanding its manufacture movements but also to keep the prices in check while doing so. Even with the matt black ceramic Carrera, they uphold this, as the retail price of US$6.300,- is very competitive for a watch made out of ceramic, with a manufacture chronograph movement and the pedigree of a brand like TAG-Heuer.
