Today we’re taking a close up look at the Antikythera SunMoon watch. Featuring highly precise Sun and Moon indications, this piece was created in tribute to the Antikythera mechanism, which is considered to be the first “astronomical calculator” in the history of humanity, and dates back to the 2nd century BC (sometime between 150 and 100 BC).

The Haute Minute

Our exclusive photos of this unique timepiece, which is a tribute to the ancient Antikythera mechanism...

Housed in a titanium case, the Antikythera SunMoon features a simplified and miniaturised version of the original mechanism. At its heart is the HUB9008, a manual-winding mechanical movement that boasts some 295 components and 7 complications.

In addition to the solar and lunar calendars, functions include hours and minutes, seconds, the position of the Sun and the Moon, moonphase (including its shape in the sky, the name of the constellation behind the Moon and the time required for the Moon to pass through a constellation).

The unique beauty of this model’s dial is enhanced by the flying tourbillon visible at 6 o’clock, which rotates once every minute to indicate small seconds.
