I was excited to see our good friends Carl F. Bucherer at BaselWorld, as they are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year. I met with CEO Sascha Moeri at their booth, where two beautiful pieces got my attention.
I was excited to see our good friends Carl F. Bucherer at BaselWorld, as they are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year.
First, and most important, is the launch of the first tourbillon in company history. The CFB Tourbillon, a limited edition of 188 pieces which was priced under $100,000 was a huge success for the company, selling out to their dealers worldwide. As Sascha said, better late than never! This is an amazing piece for the price point, and the movement is 100% done in-house. The CFB Tourbillon, which comes in a 41mm rose gold case, is very good looking and done right – I think this is not going to be a one-time occurrence, but the future for the brand in the tourbillon category.
The next piece that caught my eye in a big way was the Patravi TravelTev Four X Limited Edition. Another limited edition from Carl F. Bucherer’s popular Patrai TravelTec line, this model celebrates the 125th anniversary of the brand, with only 125 pieces produced. The watch has three time zones and is made in titanium with ceramic, with a rubber strap on rose gold to give it a sporty look. The case of the Patravi TravelTec FourX incorporates a fixed scratch-resistant bezel made of new high-tech black ceramic, while the dial permits a clear view of the automatic movement. The movement is also done in-house, with a 48 hour power reserve.
I can’t believe Carl F. Bucherer is already celebrating 125 years – sometimes we forget how long these brands have been around. I have always been a huge fan of this brand, but felt these two watches were very special, and were the best of the brand for BaselWorld 2013. Seeing Sascha’s enthusiasm and love for the brand (along with his beautiful three-piece suits) made me think this brand is definitely headed in the right direction.
