Charris Yadigaroglou, chief communications office for MB&F, says of the piece, “Like all of our machines, we start from an idea. We don’t start from the movement, like most brands…we don’t start from engineering. We start from a powerful, simple idea.”
This idea in this case was all the innovation occurring in the 1970s, including the moon landing, super sonic flights, an, of course, the beginning of supercars.
The style of the case was inspired by several 1970 supercars, and even the winding crown resembles the exhaust port of an automobile.
Of course, this is not a classic look for a watch. The case is a dual construction, and the dials themselves are actually within the case—so what you are seeing is an optical illusions and a reflection of the dial.
Since the watch was inspired by cars, this is a truly drivers watch—in that you don’t need to tilt your wrist at all while driving to see the time.
This first edition was launched in December with only 66 pieces. Expect in the year ahead the same internal compartment but new bodywork, which could include gold, rose gold and a number of other luxury material—perhaps even fiberglass. This piece retails for $63,000.
