Four decades after transforming the world of high jewelry and horology, Jacob & Co. has unveiled a groundbreaking innovation that redefines the relationship between diamonds, light, and mechanical watchmaking. The newly patented Angel Cut diamond arrives as both a technical achievement and a deeply personal milestone for founder Jacob Arabo, marking the brand’s 40th anniversary with an entirely new approach to gemstone architecture.

Rather than introducing another variation of an existing diamond shape, Jacob & Co. spent years developing a proprietary cut designed to reshape how light behaves within a stone. The result is the Angel Cut, a geometric design that blends precision engineering with emotional symbolism. Conceived entirely in-house, the cut represents a new chapter in gemology, one where brilliance is achieved not by adding more facets but by perfecting the relationships between them.

The name itself carries deep personal meaning. The Angel Cut was inspired by Angela, the wife of Jacob Arabo, reflecting a partnership that has endured for more than three decades. Its design contains exactly thirty-seven facets, a number chosen to commemorate the couple’s thirty-seven years of marriage. By translating a personal story into gemological structure, the diamond becomes both a technical invention and a symbol of devotion expressed through geometry and light.

From a technical standpoint, the Angel Cut addresses one of the most persistent challenges in diamond cutting. Rectangular stones often preserve more of the original rough material, yet they traditionally struggle to achieve the vibrant light performance of round brilliant cuts. Jacob & Co. approached this challenge through precise geometric refinement, engineering every proportion and angle to enhance optical behavior without sacrificing the integrity of the original stone.

The defining feature of the Angel Cut lies in its distinctive lozenge-shaped table set within a rectangular outline with cut corners. This configuration alters the path of light within the diamond, guiding reflections in a controlled manner to produce a luminous, dimensional glow across the surface. The effect is a diamond that radiates with elegance rather than overwhelming sparkle, delivering brilliance that feels composed, fluid, and architectural.

Careful calibration of crown height, pavilion depth, and facet alignment allows the stone to maximize internal reflection while maintaining a consistent distribution of light across its surface. The result is reduced extinction and softer contrast, producing a glow that appears continuous rather than fragmented. This refined optical performance makes the Angel Cut particularly suited to environments where light exposure may be limited, such as diamond-set watch cases.

To debut the new cut, Jacob & Co. selected one of its most extravagant and technically ambitious creations. The Billionaire Double Tourbillon Angel Cut is the first watch ever adorned with Angel Cut diamonds, showcasing this innovation within a timepiece that already represents the outer limits of gem-set watchmaking.

Encased in a striking 54 by 41 millimeter white gold structure, the watch features ninety-eight Angel Cut diamonds totaling more than fifty-one carats across the case alone. These stones are unusually large for a watch setting, often approaching the size typically reserved for centerpiece diamonds in high jewelry. Their arrangement forms a seamless architecture of light that surrounds the dial with extraordinary visual intensity.

The dial extends this luminous structure with an additional array of Angel Cut and baguette cut diamonds, carefully positioned to frame the mechanical heart of the watch. Two flying tourbillons sit symmetrically at twelve and six o’clock, creating a powerful visual dialogue between mechanical precision and gemstone brilliance. In total, the watch incorporates nearly 300 white diamonds with a combined weight of approximately 79 carats.

Beneath this radiant surface lies the JCAM50 manual-winding caliber, an intricate movement comprising 460 components. The dual flying tourbillons are positioned in perfect balance within the dial’s architecture, reinforcing the watch’s theme of symmetry between light and motion. While the diamond-paved dial commands attention, the skeletonized movement reveals its complexity through a sapphire caseback, offering a second perspective into the watch’s mechanical artistry.

The Billionaire collection has long represented Jacob & Co.’s most uncompromising exploration of gem-set watchmaking. Since its debut in 2015, the series has consistently pushed the boundaries of both luxury and engineering, evolving from early diamond tourbillon pieces into some of the most elaborate watches ever created. Earlier models relied heavily on emerald and Asscher-cut diamonds to achieve their iconic surfaces of light. With the introduction of the Angel Cut, the brand now introduces a proprietary alternative designed not only to complement these historic cuts but to surpass them in optical refinement.

For Jacob & Co., the decision to launch the new diamond cut within the Billionaire platform was deliberate. A patented innovation designed to redefine diamond light performance demanded a stage equal in scale and ambition. The Billionaire Double Tourbillon Angel Cut provides precisely that environment, merging extraordinary carat weight with mechanical complexity and artistic vision.

The watch is produced in a strictly limited edition of just eighteen pieces, further reinforcing its status as one of the rarest creations in contemporary watchmaking. With a retail price of 3.4 million dollars, the timepiece represents far more than an anniversary release. It signals the beginning of a new direction for Jacob & Co., one in which the House moves beyond traditional diamond geometries to establish its own proprietary language of light.

In doing so, Jacob & Co. once again demonstrates its unique ability to merge technical mastery with storytelling. The Angel Cut is an architectural concept, a personal tribute, and a statement about the future of high jewelry and haute horlogerie.
