Columbus Yachts, a brand of Palumbo Superyachts, released the new 50-metre Columbus Sport MY K2 at the Ancona shipyard earlier this year. The superyacht combines new aesthetic features such as the engineering developments that guarantee a high comfort level even in rough sea conditions and integrated I-Bridge® equipped with FULL ECDIS Paperless. The aluminium hull and superstructure, weighing a gross tonnage of 499, are some of the vital competitive points of this vessel. When combined with a maximum draft of 2.2m, these components are what the luxury yacht builders hope will make her a one-of-a-kind yacht on the market – capable of sailing in shallow waters.

Columbus Sport 50 MY K2 stems from the naval engineering of Palumbo Superyachts in collaboration with Hydro Tec. At the same time, the external lines and the interior design are penned by LUCA DINI Design & Architecture. The Columbus range offers four different lines: Sport, Classic, Crossover and Custom for unique projects. The superyacht can host 11 guests in five cabins, while the 11 crew members are housed in seven cabins.

TEAM Italia is on board the 50-metre Columbus Sport MY K2 with an integrated I-Bridge® equipped with FULL ECDIS Paperless. The company has confirmed its position as an international leader in navigation electronics, with over 500 projects completed for yachts with lengths ranging from 30 m to over 100 m. This is also thanks to the exclusive I-Bridge® system, which makes it possible to integrate and control the various onboard systems using the latest touchscreen technologies.

Specifically, the integrated I-Bridge® onboard the Columbus Sport 50 m MY K2 provides control of all the systems in the Wheel House (Wheel House Control) and Steering Conning, based on touch technology. This I-Bridge® system includes three Multicontrol, exclusive TEAM Italia elements that guarantee the full management of different navigation systems using a single Human-Machine Interface (HMI).

The integrated I-Bridge® on the Columbus Sport MY K2 also includes a Remote Diagnostic System, conceived and finely tuned by TEAM Italia’s R&D department, which can be used for remote maintenance operations and troubleshooting support. The essential yet elegant graphics are perfectly in line with the clear and recognisable style of the superyachts of the Sport line of Columbus Yachts, a Palumbo Superyachts brand, without forgetting the immediacy and usability features of all Onyx Marine graphics. The navigation lights are integrated through a register-approved device. In contrast, the external lights are dimmable and fully controlled by the new Power Dimmer modules, also realised with Onyx Marine design and specifications.

Powered by two 2,600hp MTU engines, MY K2 reaches a top speed of 21.5 knots and a cruising speed of 17, with a long-range for transoceanic passages. According to Columbus, performance analysis at the lowest rates reported fascinating results, also considering the keel structure, with a consumption of 70 l/H at 10 knots. Columbus 50 Sport achieved extremely low noise levels during the sea trials in the guest cabins – even at 85% of maximum engine power, at a speed slightly above 20 knots.
