Three Stunning New Models Join A. Lange & Söhne’s Saxonia Line
SAXONIA OUTSIZE DATE and SAXONIA THIN On December 7th 2020, A. Lange & Söhne is celebrating two anniversaries: 175 years ago, Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the foundation stone for Saxon fine watchmaking. And on the same day 30 years ago, his great-grandson Walter Lange made a fresh start. A. Lange & Söhne is celebrating this special day with three new, mechanical works of art "Made in Saxony", which - thanks to their elegance, creative harmony and technical finesse - can be worn on a wide variety of occasions: the SAXONIA OUTSIZE DATE in pink and white gold and the SAXONIA THIN in white gold with a black, copper-colored shimmering dial.  |  Photo: Haute Time / brand

The Saxonia has always been an intriguing collection from A. Lange & Söhne. Not only has the brand introduced some stunning complications over the years in this line, but it also offers the perfect balance between classic and contemporary design. The Saxonia Outsize Date combines A. Lange & Söhne's signature oversized date with a subtle subsecond. Until today, this watch was only available in either white or pink gold, with a black dial, but are now joined by two silver dial siblings.

The Saxonia has always been an intriguing collection from A. Lange & Söhne. Not only has the brand introduced some stunning complications over the years in this line, but it also offers the perfect balance between classic and contemporary design. The Saxonia Outsize Date integrates A. Lange & Söhne’s signature oversized date with a subtle subsecond. Until today, this watch was only available in either white or pink gold, with a black dial, which now joined by two silver dial siblings.

The difference in character is striking. Where the warm look of the pink gold case turns the silver-dialed Saxonia Outsize Date into a classic gentlemen’s watch, gives white gold the timepiece a very understated look. Both are equally common with A. Lange & Söhne, a brand that has a rich history, but which at the same time likes to stay under the radar with most of its creations; if you know, you know. To many clients, this is part of the appeal of A. Lange & Söhne. That, and of course their exquisite craftsmanship in which these new Saxonia models also don’t disappoint.

What remains the same is the movement. Also these new Saxonia Outsize Date models are fitted with manufacture caliber L086.8. This movement oozes with traditional German craftsmanship, with its plates and bridges made from untreated German silver, hand-engraved balance cock, and swan neck regulator. At the same time, it is also a very modern creation, with a generous power reserve of 72 hours and in-house crafted balance spring. Thanks to a pusher at the ten o’clock position can the date easily be adjusted whenever needed. 38.5mm in diameter seems modest, but thanks to its clean dial, modest bezel, and now with the silver dials, does this A. Lange & Söhne wear considerably larger.

A limited-edition of 50 pieces also expands the Saxonia collection. This model features a white gold case and combines this with a solid silver dial, which is coated with a black gold flux in which tiny copper-colored particles are incorporated. This gives the watch an incredible play of light while remaining rather understated in appearance. The watch is powered by manufacture caliber L093.1, an ultra-thin manual wind movement with a power reserve of 72 hours.
