The worlds of art and horology are often colliding as many timepieces are considered to be works of art. Case in point: Vacheron Constantin’s latest initiative with the Louvre Museum, “A Masterpiece on the Wrist.” A relationship rich in history, Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre first initiated its partnership in 2019, and in December of 2020, Vacheron Constantin took part in an auction to support the Louvre. The auction resulted in the buyer getting a private tour of the museum alongside its experts. The artwork chosen for the single-piece edition Les Cabinotier is the La lutte pour l’étendard de la Bataille d’Anghiari, by Pierre Paul Ruben, and 100% of the auction’s proceeds benefited Le Studio, a place where visitors can learn more about the Louvre’s artwork through the development of art and cultural education.

Today, the two brands explore the dynamic relationship between high watchmaking and art. As a part of the new initiative, Vacheron Constantin is now giving its customers the exclusive offering of creating a single-piece edition Les Cabinotiers watch, the dial of which will feature an enamel reproduction of an artwork from the Louvre chosen by the purchaser — a bespoke experience like no other.

‘I enthusiastically welcome this collaboration between our two institutions, both centuries-old yet firmly rooted in the 21st century, as evidenced by the favor they enjoy among an audience of connoisseurs,” notes Louis Ferla, the CEO of Vacheron Constantin. “Our Maison has long since stood out in terms of both artistic commitment and cultural patronage. With the Louvre Museum, we are writing an extremely promising joint history by combining our fields of competence and our wildest dreams.”

The “A Masterpiece on the Wrist” experience also includes a private tour of the Louvre as well as a visit to the Vacheron Constantin Manufacture to meet its master watchmakers and artisans.

Vacheron Constantin’s design ethos has long been “The Anatomy of Beauty,” and this partnership serves as a testament to that. “I am delighted with this collaboration, which is full of fruitful exchanges between our teams and marked by a shared desire to serve Beauty,” points out Laurence des Cars, President and Director of the Louvre.  “Born in the Age of Enlightenment, our two institutions share the mission of passing on a passion for art, heritage and the excellence of ancestral craftsmanship. While firmly rooted in history, they are resolutely open to the contemporary world.”
