Luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has added to its Classico Cloisonné collection with the new Pride of Baltimore.
Luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has added to its Classico Cloisonné collection with the new Pride of Baltimore. This timepiece was inspired the historic Baltimore Clippers, who broke the British naval blockade of the US coastline during the War of 1812.
Ulysse Nardin is memorializing one of the most famous Baltimore Clipper sailors, Captain Thomas Boyle of the Chasseur, whose ship was nicknamed the “Pride of Baltimore”. This famous ship is pictured through enameling art on the 40mm-diameter dial of this mechanical timepiece. Opaque, transparent and translucent colors and tones depict the Pride of Baltimore on the enamel cloisonné motif dial. Each segment of the dial is divided by a gold wire that prevents the liquid powdered enamel from flowing into other melting chambers. According to the manufacture, over 500mm of fine gold wire was used to make the cloisons, a process which took 50 working hours and 26 processes to complete each cloisonné dial. At its heart the self-winding Pride of Baltimore is powered by a UN 815 caliber that has been COSC Chronometer certified and has a power reserve of 42 hours.
The Pride of Baltimore timepiece will be produced in two limited editions; one edition of 30 pieces in 18-karat white and one edition of 30 pieces in rose gold.
