Ulysse Nardin Introduces Three New Nautical Models To The Marine Torpilleur Collection
For the last several centuries, Ulysse Nardin has earned a remarkable reputation as a master of deck chronometers for naval forces around the world with its premium accuracy used in the technology of each timepiece. In fact, the watchmaker has won prestigious awards for its excellence at the time and supplied its inventions to over 50 navies, geodesy institutes, and astronomical observatories. And in 2017, a new generation of UN chronometers was born: the Marine Torpilleur.

Inspired — and named — after the torpedo boat, a small, incredibly fast historic vessel, the timepiece adopted the aesthetic codes of marine chronometers, including the fluted bezel, Roman numeral hour markers, and the dual counter. Today, UN once again enters uncharted territory with the expansion of its Marine Torpilleur permanent collection with three new timepieces: the Marine Torpilleur Dual Time, the Marine Torpilleur Moonphase in rose gold, and the Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon in white Grand Feu enamel.

While all three models embody UN’s nautical spirit, they have subtle design and technical differences. The new 44mm Marine Torpilleur Dual Time is designed with the vintage DNA of the Marine Chronometer with the fluted bezel, counter, and Roman numeral hour-markers with a polished and satin-finished stainless-steel case and sunray satin-finished blue dial. Inside, the timepiece is equipped with the technical advantages of the UN-334 manufacture caliber, which offers hour, minute, and small seconds functions at 6 o’clock and a large date in a double aperture at 2 o’clock, which can be adjusted in both directions. While the “home time” display operates continually over a 24-hour period in an aperture at 9 o’clock, the small hand can be moved forward or backward very easily to the local time using the “+” and “-” push-pieces at 8 o’clock and 10 o’clock.

In contrast to the limited-edition Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon in black Grand Feu enamel that launched last year, this year’s white version is now part of the permanent collection. The 42mm Marine Torpilleur Tourbillon in white Grand Feu enamel features the stunning white “Grand Feu” enamel dial designed by Donzé Cadrans, which proudly displays the power reserve at 12 o’clock. To complete the innate sophistication of the timepiece, the watch is fitted with a rich blue alligator-skin strap. The UN-128 self-winding manufacture caliber powers the flying tourbillon with constant escapement, which is fitted with a flying silicium anchor, a system patented by Ulysse Nardin that won the Tourbillon Watch Prize at the 2015 annual GPHG (Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève) ceremony.

Last, but certainly not least, the new Marine Torpilleur Moonphase is the first interpretation of the model with a 42mm rose gold case. Powered by the UN-119 self-winding caliber with a silicium balance-spring and a DiamonSil escapement wheel and anchor, the dual counters display the power reserve at 12 o’clock and the small seconds and moon disc at 6 o’clock. The moon is transferred onto the counter, which adds elegance when it shows itself against the starry blue PVD sky.

The three new nautical timepieces make for the perfect addition to the historical collection.
