The Haute Minute

Haute Time held a special webinar this afternoon with Ulysse Nardin President of Americas François-Xavier Hotier, and retired Navy SEAL Senior Chief and Managing Director of non-profit One More Wave, Kyle Buckett. They engaged in a conversation about the value of time under current conditions and the relationship that has developed between the luxury brand and the non-profit organization that serves veterans.

The current times of quarantine and social distancing is not the first time that Ulysse Nardin has witnessed a global event taking place. As one of the world’s leaders in luxury watchmaking, the Swiss brand, founded in 1846, has kept the record of history and time. “Ulysse Nardin has been through many events, in good times and bad times,” said Hotier. The brand is planning on releasing new watches in the fall. He added, “Our collectors and friends are looking forward to seeing them. We are keeping ourselves busy.”

One More Wave is a certified non-profit organization that provides wounded and disabled veterans customized surfing equipment, helping them to achieve Surf Therapy all over the world. “One More Wave is so special in the fact that we found a unique way to combat PTSD and all of the mental and depression disorders that can come from losing a limb or more during or after serving,” said Buckett. “We realized that by creating customized surfing equipment for our members, we can help them get back out there on the ocean and have fun.”

Buckett also spoke fondly of the cocktail and dinner fundraiser that Haute Living, Ulysse Nardin, XO, and Louis XIII held during the 2019 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to support One More Wave, a highlight evening in the organization’s growth. “That night, we raised over $110,000 for One More Wave,” he said. “We were able to serve 50 veterans from the proceeds of that evening. Because of the efforts of that evening, 50 lives and their families were impacted. It was huge.”

Hotier also talked about the Diver Deep Dive “One More Wave, a strong and resistant deep-diving watch created by the brand to raise funds for One More Wave. It is a limited edition and only available in the US.

Specialized in conditions that require focus, patience, and ingenuity, Buckett had advice for viewers to get through quarantine days. “A lot of guys in special forces are very used to this,” he said. “The only difference for me is now I have kids running around. If you have extra time, I would say pick up a new skill, whether it’s cooking or a new language. Some of us don’t have extra time, but for me, I have been hosting live Peloton rides with some of my friends. We are racing against each other. It has gotten pretty competitive.”
