Haute Time found a hidden treasure during a recent visit to the Blancpain Boutique on New York’s Fifth Avenue.  During a meeting with the Blancpain team, we stumbled upon the X Fathoms. I recalled seeing the timepiece when it was officially launched, however when I found out how rare this piece is, I was truly impressed! Leave it to Blancpain to uncover a buried treasure…with a little help from Haute Time.

The X Fathoms is a diving watch reminiscent of the iconic 1953 design combined with a mechanical depth gauge creating one of the most high-performance mechanical diving watches available – and this is the only one currently available worldwide!

Powered by a 9918B self-winding movement with a five-day power reserve, the X Fathoms boasts many impressive features for divers and collectors alike. Features like a new base-plate for the movement, amorphous metal for the depth gauge membrane, which comes in contact with salt water, so therefore must meet even the steepest demands.

The dial of the X Fathoms stands out, with each of its indications in different colors complimenting the style and design of the timepiece and also serving a few very important purposes. With clear and readable indications for everything from showing you the time to a real depth gauge up to 90 meters the X Fathoms also shows a diver their real and maximal depth, depth scales and a retrograde 5-minute counter for decompression stops.

The details and finishing used on the X Fathoms not only rocks, but also exhibits the tradition of Blancpain’s dedication to fine watchmaking. With a satin-brushed titanium case measuring an impressive 55.65mm and a complex injected rubber strap, flows perfectly with the case style and design.
