There was a time when the perpetual calendar was a complication that could only be found in classic, gold cases, fitted with alligator leather straps. They were revered and treasured, yet only worn when the activities weren't too strenuous or potentially damaging to its complex movement. Hublot is starting the LVMH Watch Week in Dubai off with a Big Bang. Fifteen years after this visionary model was introduced, it now gets a fully integrated bracelet. Back in 2005 did the Big Bang introduce us to the 'Art of Fusion' by combining ceramic, rubber, and steel into a single watch in an innovative way.

It is still interesting to see that the development of certain mechanical complications doesn't stop. A great example of this is the chronograph, where brands continue to find new ways to take it to the next level. 2019 was a year in which chronographs broke records and celebrated anniversaries, as it has been 50 years since the very first automatic chronographs hit the market. So no wonder that 2019 was a great year for chronographs.

Hublot's partnership with Ferrari has shown us what a dynamic synergy is possible when two brands have such complementary DNA. This year they marked the 90th anniversary of Scuderia Ferrari, the race division of the Italian brand, with three unique watches, and among them, this Big Bang Scuderia Ferrari 90th Anniversary Sapphire.

Can a watch have an appeal beyond those who play the sport that it was so specifically designed for? In the case of the Hublot Big Bang Unico Golf, this can be answered with a clear yes. This is quite unusual as the complication that this watch is fitted with is very specific and of little use when not on the green. However, the impact that this complication has on the overall design is what makes this watch so tempting to a much larger group of watch connoisseurs, and proves its worth also off the golf course.

Over the years has Hublot actively contributed to many great charity organizations. As they continue in this tradition, they have now joined forces with Kevin Pietersen, whose organization 'Save Our Rhino Africa India' (SORAI) is determined to protect the rhinoceroses from extinction. This threat is genuine, as two-thirds of all the rhino species are estimated to disappear within the next few decades, as their populations decline sharply.

Becoming a 'gold standard' in the world of watches is something that only a few models will ever achieve. In a twist of irony have many of them accomplished this by being made not from this precious metal. However, that doesn't mean that even those don't look good in gold. Over the years have these four models proved their staying power and became the ones to which all the others are measured.

Watches that use a spectrum of colored gemstones to create a rainbow effect have become a modest trend in recent years. Most brands use sapphires to create this effect, often in addition with amethysts, tsavorites and other colored gemstones. Hublot simply has a knack for partnerships. The brand is not afraid to share the spotlight with somebody else who contributes to a special watch. Interesting enough are these never people from the watch industry but outsiders, who made name and fame in a completely different field.
