Patek Philippe Welcomes The 5172G As Its New Hand-Wound Chronograph

Introduced at Baselworld 2019, the Patek Philippe 5172G takes over the previous ref. 5170 family as the company’s manual-wound chronograph model. And since the hand-wound chronograph sans other complications has become (after a lengthy absence between the late sixties and late nineties) one of Patek Philippe’s signature watches again, the ref. 5172G has some big shoes to fill. Breitling Introduces The Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition

In the luxury watch realm, there are a handful of icons that go by a single name without needing a reminder of which brand makes it—and the legendary Navitimer is most certainly one of them. Launched in 1952 with a slide-rule bezel to compute complex navigational calculations, the Navitimer was designed with professional pilots in mind. A particularly popular vintage Navi is the “All-Black” 806 from 1959. So to celebrate 60 years of that cult classic, Breitling presented the Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition.

The Ups And Downs Of Baselworld 2019

Purely based on the numbers, Baselworld is not in very good shape. While the departure of the Swatch Group grabbed the headline, the exodus of participants has been far greater. This year there were only 520 exhibitors, down from over 1.500 in 2016. But these numbers don't tell the whole story, as the 2019 edition might be much more compact, many major players were still there, and contributed in delivering a worthwhile experience.

Hublot is always the one to innovate and to push the envelope! They for sure have done exactly that once again this year. Baselworld 2019; What To Expect?

Tomorrow Baselworld will open its doors once again. This year it will be a completely different animal altogether. The departure of the Swatch Group, as well as an exodus of other brands, has made the show much smaller than it was in previous years. The question that remains is if that is a bad thing?
