The days that the Aquanaut collection stood in the shadow of its famous sibling, the Nautilus, have been long gone. With its powerful yet elegant lines, the Aquanaut acquired many fans, and Patek Philippe delighted them recently with new additions to the collection.

This weekend in Geneva, the traditional watch auctions took place. Things were different than before, as many Covid-19 precautions were still in place. Also, a lot of collectors and dealers could not travel to the auctions themselves due to various travel restrictions. This also meant that they could not examine the watches themselves before the sale, although various digital initiatives tried to give them as much information as possible. That made it that the auctions could definitely be seen as a test on how the outbreak of Covid-19 would impact the vintage watch market.

Two or three hands that tell the time, sometimes with a date complication added to the mix; the majority of the watches produced these days follow this format. Nearly every brand has multiple models that follow this concept in their collection, which makes standing out, or even going a step further and making a mark on the industry, is challenging. When it comes to dial colors, decades were ruled by black and silver as the most popular choices. They still rule supreme, but now need to give a bit of space to other colors as well. Blue has become a staple in more recent years, but grey and brown tones are getting more popular as well. Green might seem like a more extreme color, but also this one seems to be here to stay. While it will probably never dethrone black and silver, these four watches are bound to make anybody who sees you wear them, green with envy!

With just a little over two decades worth of history, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut has finally come into its own and is no longer just regarded as the more affordable alternative to the Nautilus. This is thanks in no small part to Patek Philippe’s recent Aquanaut releases, starting with the blue Aquanaut 5168G in 2017 followed by this year’s green Aquanaut 5168G.

When it comes to sports watches, few can rival the reputation of the Patek Philippe Nautilus. That includes its own sibling, the Aquanaut. This watch was introduced, as Ref. 5060A, by Patek Philippe in 1997 and made quite an impression as it was the very first Patek Philippe to feature a rubber strap.

For such exclusive watch manufacture, their collection is surprisingly diverse and large.
