TAG Heuer’s Carrera Chronograph is cemented as the timepiece of choice for some of Formula 1’s greatest teams and drivers. The 2022 yellow gold iteration builds on a rich lineage of legendary racing timepieces which date back to 1963.

It’s not difficult to understand why the Carrera Chronograph is so popular among motorsport enthusiasts. The watch is highly legible, has an uncluttered dial, sleek lines, and high-performance movements. The first yellow gold models were introduced in 1970 and were actually the personal favorite of then-CEO, Jack Heuer. Jack’s strategy, which was to present these iconic watches to winning drivers, led the watch to become a symbol of success throughout the track. To this day, fans yearn to reclaim a piece of that 1970s glamourous racing spirit.

The 2022 iteration of the Carrera Chronograph offers a never-seen-before dial design with black and golden gilded subdials. Brand aficionados might recognize the legendary John Player Special livery which stood out in Formula 1 in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Formula 1 legend and TAG Heuer ambassador, Ayrton Senna, sported the iconic livery on his 98T Lotus at the beginning of his illustrious career.

The classic 42-mm case is made of solid 18K 3N yellow gold, with gold pushers and crown. The rich black sunray brushed dial brings sophistication, depth, and subtle play of light to the wrist.

The black and gold design proves just as attractive a combination today as it was in the ‘70s. It expresses all the excitement, glamour, and thrills of racing in decades past and carries on Jack Heuer’s vision faithfully into a resolutely modern piece that exudes confidence, character, elegance, and sophistication.
