This week, Jacob & Co. released one of their novelties that is set to launch during this year’s Watches & Wonders in Geneva. Setting the bar high for Jacob & Co. at Watches & Wonders 2023, the new Casino Tourbillon is not only a visual horlogerie masterpiece but also makes history for the brand as the first-ever flying tourbillon that is featured on the case back.

“Life is a game. It deserves a gamesome timepiece. Casino is on par with the lifestyle offered by the Casino de Monte-Carlo or the high-stakes room at the MGM Grand. This clean, lean, and sleek roulette watch is dressed in rose gold and a black onyx dial, an unadulterated expression of Jacob & Co.’s cheerful nature and ingenuity. Playing with watchmaking classics, doing away with conventions and propriety, Casino sets a unique tone in today’s horology,” notes the Jacob & Co. release about the new timepiece.

On the heels of the Astronomia Casino which was released in 2019, the Casino Tourbillon is just as daring in its design; yet its dimensions, shape, movement, and construction are entirely new. The Jacob & Co. Casino Tourbillon is a timepiece that combines the precision of a mechanical watch with the excitement of a casino game, creating a one-of-a-kind piece on the wrist. The 44-mm case body is crafted out of 18K rose gold and thoroughly polished. The caseband is curved, the bezel steep and the sapphire crystal generously domed, ultimately creating a single harmonious line. It’s fitted with four full and wide lugs, whose shape initiates the black alligator strap curve.

Perhaps the first thing that catches the eye about the Casino Tourbillon is the dial, featuring the roulette wheel, complete with a ball that spins around with each movement of the watch. The wheel is made up of 37 pockets, each with a number from 0 to 36, and is set against a backdrop of black onyx, mirror-polished and fitted with applied, 5N gold indices. Their kite shape is a nod to the kite-cut sapphires, used in several Jacob & Co. creations. The black PVD flange contains eight diamond-shaped deflectors, which aim at rising the variance level of the roulette game. The wheel-track flange, that small wall at the foot of the upper side of the dial, is mirror polished, as on an actual roulette, and leaves a small space between the dial and the sapphire crystal.

The Casino Tourbillon introduces a new caliber, caliber, JCAM51, as an entirely new creation. The Roulette module rests on a last-generation base caliber, with a comfortable and week-end-in-Vegas-proof power reserve of 72 hours. It’s regulated by a flying tourbillon located on the back side of the case for the first time, making the case back just as exciting as the dial.

A timepiece that we’re certainly taking a gamble on, the Casino Tourbillon is a modern update to the beloved Astronomia Casino and sets the stakes high for an exciting 2023 in Geneva.
