Welch, who served as the chairman and CEO of General Electric from 1981-2001, has a biweekly column at Reuters and Fortune. The executive recently appeared as himself on an episode of the NBC sitcom 30 Rock in a scene with Jack Donaghy (portrayed by Alec Baldwin), the fictional Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming for General Electric.
