In some watches, all the favorites blend together in one. Such a timepiece is the new Arceau Grande Lune by Hermès. With this watch is the brand expanding its highly successful Arceau line. You can take this quite literally as this new addition is also immediately the largest member of the family, measuring 43mm in diameter.

Hermès is using this space to its advantage, generously spacing out all the functions of the full calendar that this watch is equipped with. It has a traditional layout, meaning that two windows under the twelve o’clock tell day and month. The date and the moon phase display are combined in a subdial at six o’clock. This is not the only treat Hermès has in store, as they opted for a beautiful blue-with-silver color scheme, which combines very well with the font the brand is using for the numerals. Hermès is calling this color ‘Abyss blue,’ which is quite fitting. The dial has been given a sunburst effect as well, which means that it shows a beautiful play of light. The moon phase disc is crafted with great care and eye for detail, and the stars also decorate the subdial. While this would be whimsical on most other watches, it fits right in with the Arceau Grande Lune and gives the watch a fun and casual touch.

While the asymmetrical case was originally designed in 1978, it hasn’t lost any of its charms. Even in this larger size, the watch is still beautifully proportioned and combined with the blue dial, it even has a contemporary look. This is quite an achievement for a watch that is, by all means, a classical proposition, with its full calendar and elegant leaf-shaped hands. The Arceau Grande Lune is powered by an automatic movement, based on the famed ETA 2892 fitted with a calendar module, which can be seen through the sapphire caseback.
