Five Favorite Photo’s Of SIHH 2017

The SIHH gives you the opportunity to see and handle some of the most amazing new watches. All those masterpieces available at a single venue is exhilarating yet also hard work, especially for Haute Time’s photographer Alex Teuscher. Light conditions are always challenging at a fair, and there is a constant pressure to finish up in time make it to the next appointment. Simultaneously it is also important to respect the subject and photograph it in an environment that it suits. In the digital age, you can, fortunately, see very quickly if you are on point, and very little things are as gratifying as ending a long yet exciting day, seeing that the fruit of your work is actually looking pretty awesome!

These are five of our favorite photos from this year’s SIHH:

You are not alone when attending the SIHH. News outlets from around the world see and photograph the same watches. That puts extra pressure on the photographers to find different angles. Like this incredible shot of the new Urwerk UR-T8, where the light highlights the details of the unique case.

Not every brand is present at the SIHH themselves, and some prefer having their exhibition elsewhere in Geneva, such as Hublot. This often also brings a rare opportunity to see watches together that either sell so quickly or are so rare, that you are not likely to have the same opportunity again anytime soon. Such as all three versions of the limited edition Hublot made to benefit the Black Jaguar – White Tiger Foundation.

While shooting the watches themselves is already difficult enough, taking photo’s of details, such as the movements, is even more so. To do this, you need plenty of light and the right angle so that you can show off the details as the watchmaker has intended them. This photo gives you a view of the back of the tourbillon on the new Girard-Perregaux Laureato tourbillon, with its bridge shaped in a style so typical of the brand.

The SIHH is as much about the people as it is about the watches. Like this photo of Jérôme Lambert, former CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre and Montblanc, now Head of Operation responsible for central and regional services and all Maisons other than jewelry and watches.

Wrist shots are for Haute Time another tradition when it comes to watch fairs. There is no better way as to put a watch into perspective as to show it on a wrist.
