This week luxury watchmakers Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrated their 180th anniversary in style with the help of Clive Owen.
Clive Owen was one of the first to step inside the Maison d’Antoine, where he visited with Jérôme Lambert, the CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Maison d’Antoine was named for Antoine LeCoultre, the founder of the Swiss brand who in 1833 created his first workshop inside his family’s farmhouse. The space, located on the top floor of the brand’s Vallée de Joux headquarters, was designed to host friends of the manufacture, from collectors to connoisseurs and even students in watchmaking initiation classes. The Maison d’Antoine will carry out the manufacture’s philosophy of perpetuating watchmaking knowledge, passing on skills and enriching techniques.
It is a fitting location for such a task; when Elie LeCoultre, son of Antoine, decided to bring the multiple watchmaking professions of the LeCoultre & Cie under one roof, the Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux became the first ever full- fledged manufacture. Now, the Swiss manufacture boasts some 180 skills involved in developing and producing the most prestigious timepieces from start to finish at this location.
Various grande complication watches, including Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 Jubilee, will be on display at the Maison d’Antoine, while workbenches will be the backdrop for watch initiation and training classes. The chalet-like Maison features wood from the spruce forests of the Vallée de Joux, portraits of the brand’s founders and even a fireplace, make it the perfect welcoming space.
