If there is one brand that is going through a period of change, it is Breitling. In 2017 it not only got new owners but also had Georges Kern, long-time CEO of IWC, appointed as its CEO. Kern didn't waste any time and dove straight into the rich history of the brand, on which he plotted its course for the next few years.

While they are utterly impressive, it is the finish of each component in the watch that truly sets it apart from anything else. This is also one of the reasons why I enjoyed the Quadruple Tourbillon Black, which was introduced during Baselworld, so much.

With the release of a reverse 'Panda-dial' version did Vacheron Constantin's sportiest watch, the Overseas Chronograph, just got a whole lot...sportier. This watch once again proves what a difference a dial can make! While the Overseas has already twenty years a firm place in Vacheron Constantin collection, the current generation didn't arrive until 2016. In comparison to previous versions, it made the Overseas more contemporary in its styling, and with the new reverse 'Panda-dial' does Vacheron Constantin extend this feeling even further.

It may come as a surprise: a classic watch brand such as Chronoswiss to dedicate a limited edition to a cryptocurrency. This is however not as strange as it perhaps seems because when Chronoswiss was founded quartz was still the way of the future. History told us otherwise, and Chronoswiss was ahead of that curve.

Baselworld 2018 was a blast, with strong new additions to the collections across all brands. While this is great news for the industry, and watch collectors and connoisseurs, it does make it quite difficult for us to pick out our favourites, but here it goes!

Baselworld 2018 brought a lot of new watches, from the large, well-known brands, but also many independent brands introduced extraordinary new models. These are five of Haute Time's favourites!

When iconic carmakers and yacht builders come together, the resulting designs astound with their unique silhouettes and prime performance.

At this years Baselworld not only a new model was added to the “Manufacture Piece”-collection by Hublot, but also a whole new material which has never been used in watchmaking before. Sourced from the US military, it is a polymer matrix composite which is reinforced by a three-dimensional carbon fibre weave. The result is a very strong, very resistant, yet also very light material.

Last year during Baselworld, Breguet surprised us with the Marine Équation Marchante 5887, which combined a tourbillon with an equation of time complication. This year it became clear that this highly complicated watch was just at the forefront of a new generation of Marine watches. For Breguet an important collection, historically, as Abraham-Louis Breguet was appointed chronometer maker of the French Royal Navy in 1815, and commercially, as everybody loves a good sports watch!
