The Answer
Block

Jacob & Co. is a jewellery and watch house founded in New York in 1986 by Jacob Arabo, an Uzbekistan-born diamond designer, and now headquartered in Geneva with its watchmaking in Switzerland. It became known first for gem-setting and celebrity jewellery, then rebuilt itself as a high-complication watchmaker: the Astronomia, launched in 2014, carries a triple-axis gravitational tourbillon with orbiting satellites for the dial, and the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon houses a working miniature sixteen-cylinder engine. The brand is unusual in combining serious complicated movements with maximalist design and full-pave gem work in the same reference.

Frequently Asked

Who founded Jacob & Co.?
Jacob Arabo, born in Uzbekistan and raised in New York, who began as a diamond setter and opened his own workshop in 1986. The watchmaking arm came later and is based in Switzerland, with the company headquartered in Geneva.
Is Jacob & Co. a real watchmaker or a jeweller?
Both, and the watches are genuinely complicated. The Astronomia's multi-axis gravitational tourbillon and the Twin Turbo Furious decimal minute repeater are technically serious pieces; the difference from a traditional maison is that Jacob & Co. treats complication as spectacle rather than restraint.
What is the Astronomia?
Jacob & Co.'s signature: a movement whose entire dial side rotates, carrying a tourbillon, a rotating globe, a moon and often a large cut diamond around a central axis. It is the reference most collectors associate with the brand.
Where can I read Jacob & Co. coverage from a watch publication?
Haute Time has published around 56 Jacob & Co. stories - Astronomia and Bugatti launches, high-jewellery pieces and interviews with Jacob Arabo.
