During Baselworld 2015, Harry Winston combines watchmaking and biology with the Harry Winston Midnight Feathers Automatic 42 mm
Watchmaking and plumasserie— the craft of creating art from feathers— are two arts layered with history and intricacy, and while one has grown and flourished its way into the modern age, introducing space age materials to aging traditions, the other has suffered a slow death of obscurity.
Luckily, watchmaker Harry Winston managed to combine the two very different arts with the Harry Winston Midnight Feathers Automatic 42 mm, a timepiece like no other.
The Midnight Feathers offers a very special experience for watch collectors. Each timepiece, adorned with colorful feathers, is an incredibly unique creation due the the natural variation of the plumage and the individual whims of the craftsman creating the watches.
Each flight feather, or remige is carefully formed into the desired shape and placed into the dial using a loupe for the greatest amount of precision. The alternating goose feathers are laid into the watch in a visually striking marquetry that plays on alternating colors.
Further adding to the aesthetic is the interplay between the deep brown alligator strap and the 18k polished pink gold case and buckle.
