On November 9 in Geneva, Christie's held an auction in commemoration of Patek Philippe's 175th anniversary. The auction generated shockingly successful numbers and created nine world auction records in the mean time. The final haul was a jaw-dropping $19.7 million.

On November 9 in Geneva, Christie’s held an auction in commemoration of Patek Philippe’s 175th anniversary. The auction generated shockingly successful numbers and created nine world auction records in the mean time. The final haul was a jaw-dropping $19.7 million.

Excitement for the event was high and all 125 seats were sold out more than 48 hours before it started. All together 300 watch collectors and enthusiasts attended to get their hands on the rarest and most beutiful timepieces in Patek Philippe’s history. 320 applicants representing a total countries registered for biddings. With over 100 of the best watches ever manufactured at hand, this was to be war. May the boldest collector win.

The prized piece of the prestigious lot turned out to be the Pink Gold Reference 2499 First Series. It sold for $2,678,425. The piece was manufactured in 1951 and at the time was one of four examples of pink gold on the market.

The auction was a smashing success, and the people of both Patek and Christie’s have much to gloat about. John Reardon, International Head of Christie’s Watch department, proudly commented: 

“This sale has exceeded our expectations in every way. With 69 lots sold above estimate, this sale sets a new benchmark for thematic sales and shows the amazing strength of the Patek Philippe market.
