The Haute Minute

The newest addition to the Freak collection, this unique timepiece indicates the hours and minutes via the movement itself...

Luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has unveiled the newest addition to its Freak collection. The Freak Cruiser channels the collection’s naval theme with a floating anchor in the form of a swing bridge and aquatic fluting on the bezel.

2056-131

The Freak Cruiser boasts a unique look, having been stripped of its dial and hands. The movement revolves on itself, so that the lower bridge indicates the hours, while the upper bridge (bearing the gear train, the balance spring and the Dual Ulysse silicon escapement) shows the minutes. This system, which Ulysse Nardin has dubbed the Carrousel-Tourbillon, is housed within the Freak Cruiser’s 43mm case of either 18K rose gold or 18K white gold.

The manual-winding caliber UN-205 can be glimpsed through the through the sapphire case-back. Since there is no crown, this timepiece is wound in a unique manner. A safety catch is used to liberate the rotating bezel, located between the lugs at 6 o’clock, which adjusts the hours and minutes when turned in either direction. Meanwhile, the barrel is wound via the rear bezel mounted on ball bearings.

The Freak Cruiser is completed by an alligator strap with deployment buckle.
