Vacheron Constantin & The Met Introduce New Artworks To The ‘Masterpiece On Your Wrist’ Program

Last September, Vacheron Constantin and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) officially announced the start of their long-term partnership that would span across mentorship programs and artist collaborations that would extend beyond watchmaking, yet also bridge the gap between art and timepieces. Today, the esteemed partnership has added an extension to the program which will now feature iconic and beloved artworks from The Met’s extensive catalog into Vacheron Constantin’s Les Cabinotiers watches.

Clients can now choose from seminal works by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Winslow Homer, and Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The inclusion of The Met’s catalog enriches the bespoke experience, offering clients a unique opportunity to wear a piece of history on their wrist.

The commissioning process includes a private tour of The Met, led by expert curators, allowing clients to immerse themselves in the chosen masterpiece’s history before visiting Vacheron Constantin’s Manufacture in Geneva. There, they meet the master watchmakers and artisans tasked with bringing their vision to life. This journey culminates in the creation of a piece unique watch, a testament to the client’s taste, and a daily reminder of the beauty of fine art.

Central to this program is the rare craft of Miniature Enamel Painting, a technique that allows for the meticulous reproduction of classic artworks on the watch dial. This method, perfect for capturing the essence of paintings by Monet, Van Gogh, and Homer, involves hand-painting details onto a layer of baked enamel, fixed through successive firings, and finalized with a protective transparent enamel flux.

While many parallels can be drawn between high watchmaking and art, one aspect is for certain: the rarity. The ‘Masterpiece on your Wrist’ program is a once-in-a-lifetime watch commission that — like pieces of art — will live through generations.
