Rolex Celebrates 100 Years Of Speed With The Debut Of A Special Cosmosgraph Daytona

Rolex is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race with a special edition of its iconic chronograph, the Cosmograph Daytona. Similar to the Daytonas we saw earlier this year at Watches & Wonders, the timepiece is crafted in 18-karat white gold, featuring a Cerachrom bezel in black ceramic with the number ‘100’ in red ceramic on the tachymetric scale, paying homage to the race’s centenary. The reverse panda black dial is accentuated by bold white counters, inspired by traditional Rolex dials, while the Oyster case includes a transparent back and is paired with an Oyster bracelet.

Since its introduction in 1963, the Cosmograph Daytona has been synonymous with speed and has been the go-to chronograph for professional racing drivers. Equipped with a tachymetric bezel and a high-performance mechanical movement developed and manufactured entirely by Rolex, this iconic timepiece is designed for measuring time intervals and determining average speeds accurately. While deeply rooted in the world of motorsport, the Cosmograph Daytona’s renowned name and functionalities have elevated its status among sport chronographs for over 60 years.

At the heart of this watch beats the exclusive caliber 4132 movement, specifically designed for this occasion. It deviates from the model’s usual twelve-hour chronograph function by allowing the hours to be counted over a span of twenty-four hours, a nod to the endurance race. The movement incorporates the Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers, and bridges adorned with Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration. The cut-out oscillating weight in 18 ct yellow gold is equipped with an optimized ball bearing. As with all Rolex timepieces, this special edition of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona bears the Superlative Chronometer certification, ensuring exceptional performance on the wrist.

In celebrating 100 years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, Rolex has once again proven its commitment to precision, craftsmanship, and enduring style. The special edition Cosmograph Daytona stands as a testament to the brand’s dedication to the world of motorsport and its ongoing pursuit of horological excellence.
