Glashütte Original Goes For Green With New PanoMaticLunar

There is no denying it, green-colored dials are one of the hottest trends in watchmaking. During Watches & Wonders earlier this year, we saw this color firmly taking the lead. Glashütte Original is now launching their PanoMaticLunar in a green color scheme. For the brand, the choice for green is a natural one, as their manufacture in Glashütte is surrounded by dense forest. On the dial, they captured all the different hues that the leaves can have, from vibrant green at the center to close to black on the edges.

Among all the recently introduced green-dialed watches, the PanoMaticLunar has no trouble standing out. One of the reasons for this is that Glashütte Original gave the watch a rose gold case. This gives a warm contrast with the dial, on which several details, such as the hands, hour markers, and moon phase featuring the same color. The asymmetrical layout of the different complications is what also makes the PanoMaticLunar in a league of its own. Despite the fact that the diameter is a relatively modest 40mm, there is plenty of room for all of them.  Because each complication occupies its own space on the dial, the watch looks very organized and can be read at a glance, with a nostalgic touch offered by the moon phase indicator.

Another reason to buy a Glashütte Original is their exceptional manufacture movement. The PanoMaticLunar is no exception to this. The watch is fitted with caliber 90-02, which can be admired through the sapphire glass in the gold caseback. It has a skeletonized oscillating weight equipped with an insert made of 21K gold for more efficient winding. As the oscillating weight is placed off-center, it doesn’t block the view of the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment, which is set on a hand-engraved balance bridge. The balance itself is weighted by 18 gold screws, and blued screws offer an additional dash of color. This exceptional movement matches the refinement found on the dial side. The finishing touch is the green strap made from Louisiana alligator.
