2016 marks the 85th anniversary of the iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch, a watch made in 1931 for British army officers determined to protect their watch in order to play elephant polo. 85 years later, it has since become the definition of sophistication and elegance. To celebrate the icon’ birthday, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces seveal Heritage pieces, and three commemorative models. But the festivities do not end there. Here are the highlights from the 2016 collection:

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute

Business as usual in the Reverso Tribute line, which sets itself apart with not one, but two faces, each working independently on either side of the iconic Reverso. The Reverso Tribute manual-wind Caliber 854A/2 powers the hours and minutes on the front, and a day/night indicator at the back. Or vice versa depending on how you want to wear it. The new Reverso Tribute measures 42.8mm by 25.5mm, and comes with a dark blue alligator leather strap.

The rectangular case of the Reverso may be its most recognisable feature, but a new line of straps is causing quite a commotion at this year’s fair. The reason? They are designed by Christian Louboutin, father of the red sole and partner of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s latest collection. For the first time, the Atelier Reverso will offer collectors the opportunity of customising a Duo Reverso, by giving them several aesthetic options to choose from. Or they can pick from a range created by Mr. Louboutin himself.

The Reverso Tribute Calendar is another Duoface, with a complete calendar with date, day and month indications on one side, and a classic classic day/night indicator on the other. Both are powered by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house Caliber 853. The former features a stunning guilloché dial with “clous de Paris” hobnail finish and a moon-phase display. The dauphine hands have also been slightly rounded to echo the curved edges of the Reverso Tribute collection.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gyrotourbillon

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s whirlwind Gyrotourbillon is back, just in time to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Reverso. And it’s 30% lighter than its predecessor. The brand presented their new in-house manual winding Calibre 179 inside a limited edition Reverso made in platinum. The bi-axial flying tourbillon, displayed inside a window at 6 o’clock, performs external rotation in one minute and an internal rotation in 12.6 seconds. Hours and minutes are indicated in an off-centre dial at 12.
