Richard Mille is Represented by a Mystery Ambassador

Richard Mille revealed a new athletic watch this week, a version of the RM 38 that seems to be clad in Jamaica’s colors. Adding a degree of mystery is the Olympic rule which forbids Mille to name the inspiration for the theme, who happens to be competing in London, until three days after the closing ceremonies.

Who will wear this watch in London?

Hublot already employs gold-medal sprinter Usain Bolt as a brand ambassador, so that rules him out. One possibility is 22 year old Yohan Blake, who is seen as Bolt’s probable replacement and possible usurper. Blake beat Bolt in Olympic trials for the 100 m and 200 m sprints earlier this year. A similar coup in London could reap significant dividends for the house of Mille.

The watch is so lightweight that the new ambassador plans to wear it during his competitions. A yellow velcro strap grips a white case, which is a large window into the inner workings of the timepiece. Framed in a Jamaican green crown, it measures 48 mm by 39.7 mm by 12.8 mm.
